THE funeral of a former borough engineer and leading member of several Pendle organisations will be held next week.

Eric Whittaker, 76, died in Burnley General Hospital on Wednesdayafter a short illness.

Mr Whittaker, of Colne, been asked for address not to go in, joined the former Colne Borough Council after leaving the town's grammar school.

He rose to become borough engineer and then assistant borough engineer with Pendle Council before retiring in 1983.

He was a past president of Colne Rotary Club, a past president of Nelson Angling Association and a former member of Colne Probus Club, Colne Round Table and Colne Water Angling Club.

Mr Whittaker was also a keen walker as well as enjoying DIY and gardening.

He was also an active member of Christ Church, Colne.

His funeral will be held at the church on Wednesdayfollowed by cremation at Skipton.

He leaves his wife Pamela, two sons Stephen and Michael and four grandchildren.
