FURY erupted as health watchdogs gave the go-ahead to the closure of Burnley's Victoria Hospital. Campaigners hoping to save the hospital saw their last chance of success evaporate as the Community Health Council voted not to oppose the closure.
The watchdog body had the sole right to oppose the shut-down, which, it was estimated, would save the health authority £800,000 a year.
