MOVES to rebuild a demolished paper mill have sparked objections from residents in Feniscowles.

Sappi UK Limited wants to reopen the former Sun Paper Mill in Preston Old Road.

The works has been demolished and the firm has come up with a scheme to build a 62,000-acre paper processing factory on the empty site.

It says the project would create around 20 jobs and help protect the future of the Feniscowles factory.

But nearby residents in Tintagel Close are unhappy with the plans and claim the new works could create pollution and extra noise.

Four residents have written to Blackburn with Darwen Council objecting to the planning application.

One objector wrote: "We are concerned at the possibility this plant could be run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"This would consequently create a substantial increase in noise levels, air pollution and increased traffic in the area."

The resident is also worried the height of the new building may affect views and privacy.

But the scheme looks set to go ahead despite the objections and town hall planners are urging councillors to approve the application.

Experts say the building would be set well back from Tintagel Close and would not overlook nearby properties.

They also claim a screen of trees will block out any noise from the new factory.

The company will have to agree to a series of conditions including conditions on when building can take place and landscaping for the area around the factory.
