THE Hag Fold Community Centre has changed its name to herald the start of a new era.

Residents on the Atherton estate who have run the centre since April 1 have decided to rename it the Dorset Road Community Centre.

It is now run by a management team made up from all the groups which use the facilities.

And it is proud of the hard work that has been put in over the past year.

Three new groups have already been attracted to use the facilities including line dancing, boxing and slimming clubs.

Chair of the committee and estate resident, Anne Broomfield (pictured), leads a team made up of representatives from old and new groups using the building.

She said: "I would like to thank everyone involved, particularly Cllr Susan Loudon, who has guided us through a difficult period. She has helped us a great deal and we know she will be there to assist in the future."

Cllr Loudon added: "I and the local authority will continue the backing. This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to run their own centre. I have seen how the members have worked together, they are justly pleased with themselves."

The building is now used by the Rainbow Group, Hag Fold Morris Troupe, Wine Circle, youth club, tea dance group, bingo and the residents' association, along with the newcomers.

The rooms can also be hired for birthday parties and celebrations. Further information from Ann on 792512.
