POLICE appealed for help this week in catching arsonists who twice tried to burn down a high school during the Easter holiday.

In the latest incident, firebugs threw petrol bombs through a broken window into a classroom at Moorhead High in Accrington.

The alarm was raised at 4am by the site supervisor who discovered smoke after the fire triggered an alarm. Luckily, the fire failed to get a proper hold. In the first attack, on Easter Sunday, vandals started a fire which damaged notice boards and papers in the corner of another classroom after breaking in through a window.

Despite the attack, the school reopened as normal on Monday. Staff at the school are still assessing the cost of the two incidents. Anyone with information can contact Accrington police on 01254 382141.
