A KIND-HEARTED Leyland duo are limbering up for the challenge of a lifetime, but for different reasons.
The London Marathon gives Acting Sergeant Phil Sigley the chance to raise money to buy life-enhancing equipment for a poorly local girl, and offers shop assistant Susan Harris the opportunity to boost Princess Diana's Memorial Fund.
Sgt Sigley's inspiration is three-year-old Samantha Bates - who suffers from Ushers syndrome, an illness which could mean she is deaf and blind before her 10th birthday.
The money he raises will be used to buy special hearing aids, estimated to cost £3,000, which could ease the effects of the illness for a short time.
Susan, who ran the marathon back in 1984, was motivated to attempt the run 14 years later in aid of the Diana Memorial Fund.
