THE worrying problem of bullying at school will come under the spotlight at an Education 2000 exhibition in Bury.

Organised by the Bury Times Group, the event will include two informative seminars as well as promotions and displays.

"Bullying In Schools - What Can We Do?" will be presented by Jill Newman of Heaton Park County Primary School, Prestwich.

The seminar will concentrate on the aims of the Heartstone Project, which grew out of a book.

The project allows pupils a route through which they can put themselves in the shoes of both victim and perpetrator and a mechanism through which to recognise the different forms abusive behaviour can take.

The second seminar, "Post-16 Qualifications", will be presented by Lauran Chatburn and Beverley Lloyd of Bury College and will look at options open to pupils after leaving school.

The Education 2000 exhibition is to be held at Bury Town Hall's Elizabethan Suite on Wednesday, April 29, between 3pm and 9pm.

It will provide parents with guidance and advice on education issues and cover associated areas such as uniforms, stationery, equipment and a host of other items.

The event, which has the support of the local education authority, is the perfect opportunity for schools, colleges and relevant businesses to come together with parents and students.

Local schools, independent schools, colleges and businesses will have the opportunity to promote and display their particular strengths and products to the public.

Bolton Bury Training and Enterprise Council, school outfitters John Anthony, and the Bury Times are the sponsors.

The exhibition begins at 3pm and there will be a musical performance by Wardle HIgh School Band between 3.15pm and 3.45pm.

At 4pm there will be an official welcome in the presence of the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Roy Walker.
