THE battling mum of a Leyland cancer sufferer is helping sick youngsters through their time in hospital - by raising cash to buy them toys.

Tracy Gillett, whose four-year-old son Lee is close to completing a course in chemotherapy, was so impressed by the work of Manchester's Pendlebury Hospital ,at she decided to give something back.

Lee was diagnosed with cancer last year. Six months on, Tracy, and Lee's aunt Dawn Almond, have helped raise almost £6,000 to buy toys for the hospital. Tracy, of Farrington, said: "We wanted to give something back after the hospital gave us so much help and attention."

The majority of the money was raised with a social evening, at Leyland Motors Social Club. Local businesses and organisations also raised cash. The cheque was presented to the hospital by Sir Tom Finney this week.

Tracy added: "Fortunately, Lee has battled through and things are beginning to get back to normal now."
