PAUL WINGFIELD has turned his back on Wembley-bound Sheffield Eagles.

He will stay with Leigh for at least another month.

The goalkicking winger ended his first month on loan from Warrington with a flawless eight from eight return against Rochdale.

His performances with his hometown club had not gone unnoticed by Eagles boss John Kear who was keen to take Wingfield to the Don Valley.

But Leigh chairman Mick Higgins has struck a deal with Warrington and Wingfield with a view to making the move from Wilderspool permanent.

"Paul has become a vital member of our first team squad and we must do everything we can to keep him at Hilton Park," said Higgins.

Leigh Alliance was narrowly beaten 15-14 by Division One leaders Workington Town.

Gary Thornburn claimed 10 of Leigh's points with two tries and a goal with the other try coming from Joey Harvey.

LEIGH have made a triple raid on Super League neighbours Wigan.

They have signed three reserve graders, all 21 - one in a permanent deal and two others on a loan basis.

Scrum-half Keiron Purtill, younger brother of Leigh's goalkicking winger, Dean joins full time while loan deals have been agreed for prop David Whittle and back rower Andy Grundy.

Chairman Mick Higgins said: "They are quality players who will considerably boost our squad."

Meanwhile, Leigh are to decide on the future of Aussie second rower Matt Nixon who will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured knee cruciate ligament.
