MANCHESTER United's Norwegian International Henning Berg has been fined £1,000 and banned from driving for 12 months after appearing before magistrates in Bury.

The 28-year-old footballer had been summoned to appear before the court after he faced disqualification under the totting up procedure.

The Bench was told how, in just three months, the soccer ace clocked up four separate speeding offences. They followed five years of problem-free driving in Britain.

In fact just one week before he was recorded travelling at more than 90mph on the northbound carriageway of the M61 at Bolton, Berg was caught speeding twice in one day.

Before the court, Berg, of Wilmslow Park in Wilmslow, pleaded guilty to speeding.

Defending, Mr Nicholas Thorne said: "Mr Berg will not suffer exceptional hardship and does not intend to argue that point to save his licence."

In addition to the ban and fine, Berg was also ordered to pay £35 court costs.
