A NUMBER of attractions on Blackpool's seafront could be restored to their former glory if Lottery funding is secured.

Plans for a multi-million pound coastal park will be put on public display from tomorrow (April 24) by Blackpool Borough Council.

Council chiefs are bidding for a £4 million grant to restore the attractions between North Pier and Little Bispham.

If successful, improvements will include the renovation of the neo-classical colonnades on Middle Walk and the restoration of sunken gardens north of Gynn Square as well as the refurbishment of tram stops, public conveniences and cliff pathways.

In addition, there are plans to build a multi-purpose arena at the North Shore Boating Pool which will create new children's play areas, viewing platforms and a cliff-top restaurant.

Councillor Roy Lewis, chairman of the resort's tourism and leisure committee, said of the project: "Blackpool has a beautiful coastal area and our aim is to renovate and restore attractions which date back to the previous century or are at least 50 years old.

"We want to recapture the splendour of our historical attractions as well as provide new public amenities.

"Lottery cash will make our vision a reality and provide a coastal park for the people."

The public can see the ambitious plans, designed by the council's consultants SGS Environment, at the Hounds Hill Shopping Centre until May 1.
