WALSHAW are desperately searching for a new cricket professional on the eve of the new Bolton Association campaign.

The Sycamore Road club have been left reeling with the news that Sam Roberts, their Tasmanian paid man, has been refused a work permit.

The 25-year-old has been turned down because he hadn't played a full season at a high enough level required in the stringent rules governing overseas players.

Club officials were believed to be talking to suitable candidates this week.

The week's arctic weather has taken it's toll on the opening weekend's action.

The whole of Saturday and Sunday's North Manchester League programme has been wiped out while the Manchester Association derby clash between Bury and Brooksbottoms has also fallen by the wayside.

At the time of going to press Radcliffe's home match against Middleton in the Central Lancashire League and Stand and Unsworth's games at Ashton and Norden, all on Sunday, are still on.

Bolton Association Elton, with new professional Greg Dimery, get started with a trip to Clifton tomorrow while in the Ribblesdale League, Edenfield entertain Padiham.
