ANDERS Andersson looks certain to make his first Premiership start for Blackburn Rovers as Roy Hodgson sifts through the wreckage of his squad to put together a team he hopes will be capable of getting back on track for Europe against Wimbledon at Ewood tomorrow.

And goalkeeper John Filan is in with a chance of making a return to the side, eight months to the day since suffering horrendous arm injuries against Sheffield Wednesday.

Swedish international midfielder Andersson looks certain to get the call, as Hodgson is without Billy McKinlay, Garry Flitcroft, Jason Wilcox and Colin Hendry through suspension.

In addition, he has Tim Flowers and Callum Davidson on the injured list, plus a major doubt over Jeff Kenna.

That has ripped the heart out of his squad but the Rovers boss should have Damien Duff, Tore Pedersen and Marlon Broomes fit again after injury.

Andersson scored two goals for the reserve side on Monday and is the only recognised central midfield player available to link up with Tim Sherwood.

He has made brief appearances as a substitute in the Premiership, since joining Rovers from Malmo last summer, and he has been in the starting line-up for the Coca-Cola Cup.

But the Swede has had to be patient since his move.

Filan also played in Monday's reserve match and has now come through three games to challenge Alan Fettis for the keeper's place. Broomes, if fit, looks the likliest candidate to replace Hendry, while Patrick Valery and Gary Croft can take the full back roles if Kenna fails to make it.

Fortunately, the free-scoring strike force of Chris Sutton and Kevin Gallacher should be intact, along with the threat from the wings, to offer hope of still carrying enough firepower to beat Wimbledon.

Rovers are desperate for a win but could be down to their last 16 players tomorrow, depending on fitness tests.

Hodgson appears to prefer operating with a smaller squad than some of his rivals.

That can come unstuck, however, when suspensions and injuries bite as they are doing at the moment.

Rovers are set to choose from: Fettis, Filan, Kenna, Valery, Broomes, Henchoz, T Pedersen, Croft, Ripley, Sherwood, Andersson, Duff, Sutton, Gallacher, Dahlin, Beattie, Johnson.

Wimbledon boss Kinnear is heading North in a relaxed frame of mind, saying: "I am not the slightest bit worried about our Premiership survival. "Our lads have done well to keep us in the Premiership for another season. We have got honest, hard-working lads, our priority was to stay up and we have done that."

Although they are well aware of Rovers' recent freefall, Wimbledon know they have not got a very good record at Ewood.

Neal Ardley said: "I don't think Blackburn have turned into a bad team overnight and I have seen a couple of their games where they played well and still lost.

"It's going to be a tough one for us."

Wimbledon are waiting for checks on Mark Kennedy (hand injury), hoping to play before the end of the season after his move from Liverpool, Carl Leaburn (hamstring) and Efan Ekoku.

The latter was due to play a reserve game earlier this week after recovering from ankle problems, but it was called off.f=Zurich Bd BTs=6l=6.5Wimbledon will choose from: Sullivan, Cunningham, Perry, Blackwell, Thatcher, M Hughes, Roberts, Ardley, C Hughes, Gayle, Clarke, Euell, Cort, Leaburn, Kimble, Francis, McAllister, Ekoku, Kennedy, Heald.
