Shaw 23 Haresfinch 16 LACKING five of the side which had scored a great win over Eccles the previous Tuesday evening, Finch put up a spirited display against a strong Shaw outfit.

And although the muddy pitch suited the heavyweight home pack much better than the lightweight visiting six, Finch led 16-10 entering the final quarter and looked set for another hard-earned triumph.

Two controversial touchdowns in the last 10 minutes, however, swung the game Shaw's way.

Finch's points came from tries by hard-working centre Iain Kenyon, prop Karl Farrall and the elusive John Jackson, with full-back Dave Swift landing two goals.

In a good all-round team effort by the losers others worthy of mention were young hooker Stuart Simmons, skipper Shaun Kilgannon, winger Lee Jones, second-row Neil Lomas and newcomer Alex Gallimore.
