MORE jobs and less waste is on today's agenda for local MP David Chaytor.
He hopes to get a Second Reading in the House of Commons for his Bill which would set tough new targets for recycling newspaper.
The Bury North MP hopes he can fight off his Labour colleagues, all trying to put their own proposals forward today, and ensure that his plans continue to work their way through Parliament.
Mr Chaytor's Bill calls on newspapers to be printed on paper made from recycled materials, and to increase the proportion of that which is recycled to 65 per cent by 2003 and 80 per cent by 2010. Currently, only 40 per cent is recycled.
"This bill would give a major boost to recycling schemes," said Mr Chaytor.
"It will reduce dependence on imported newsprint and stimulate more jobs in the paper industry by boosting the capacity of mills."
