Haydock 10 Thatto Heath 36 THATTO Heath ran out easy winners in this local derby.

Three second-half tries from winger Mike Woods sealed the win after a scrappy first half in which neither side could take control of the game. Haydock were first on the scoresheet when full-back Paul Ireland put over a penalty in the third minute. It took Heath 20 minutes to hit back and it was hooker Carl McCabe who sent in second row Jimmy Waterworth with a well-timed short pass. Wayne Jackman hit the conversion. Haydock brought the score level with two more Ireland penalties before the break. Within a minute of the second half Woods went over for his first try beating four defenders with a wonderful weaving run. His second came five minutes later when Waterworth put in a precision cross-field kick and the pacey winger was first to the loose ball. Full-back Jackman hit both conversions before he scored a fine try of his own when he crashed over in the left hand corner, after some good work by scrum-half Nigel Morris. Jackman hit a towering conversion from the touchline. Woods then made the score 28-6 with his hat-trick thanks to some strong forward play from props Martin Horton and Dave Sheridan. Jackman again hit the extras and before long Heath had scored again through a wonderful solo effort. Stand off Barry Ashall chipped through the Yickers defence and dribbled the ball all the way to the line before re-gathering and scoring near the post. Jackman hit his sixth conversion to give Heath a 26-6 lead. Haydock however came back strongly and centre Gary Lowe crossed to make the final score 36-10.

For Heath Jackman, Woods and Waterworth were in fine scoring form while Darren Blanchfield, McCabe and Sheridan were superb in defence.

Best for Haydock were Haughey, Lowe and Fearnley.
