A MAN posing as a water board official conned his his way into the home of an 88-year-old woman and stole £50 in cash.

The thief called at the woman's home in Oliver Road, Grange Park, at about noon on Thursday, April 23, claiming he was investigating a water burst and needed to check pipes in the kitchen.

After checking the kitchen he went into the living room leaving the pensioner in the kitchen. When she eventually followed him into the living room she discovered he had gone and £50 had been taken from her purse.

The thief was white and tall with medium-length dark, straight hair.
