A BLACKPOOL linguist wants to help others leap the language barrier - for just the cost of a tape.

With more energy than someone half his age, 84-year-old Stanley Bradley - fluent in a dozen languages - is now producing audio-tapes for home tuition.

"The tuition is free," said Mr Bradley.

"The tapes can be used in conjunction with language books I published several years ago.

"All I would ask is £2 for the cost of the tapes."

Already complete are tapes in French, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian and Italian - four more are on the way.

"In the Sunday newspapers they offer language courses for £1,000 - I don't say mine are in the same league, but they will give people a taste," he said.

"They're very conversational and they can get someone used to the sound of the language."

Mr Bradley, of St Annes Road, was an international salesman long before the European Community and he is evangelical in his message that languages can open doors.

"Everyone should be able to speak two foreign languages," he says.

He corresponds with friends all over the world and is just launching on to the Internet for more immediate contact.

In the meantime, Mr Bradley is available on 404398, afternoons and evenings.
