READY, steady, Splash! The Fylde Coast's dance music fans are in for a midsummer treat.

Broadcasting from a studio in Blackpool's world-famous Tower building, Splash 106.2 FM will take to the airwaves for its third one-month trial on July 13.

Splash FM - aiming to achieve a full eight-year licence as soon as it can - is delighted to have gained its third trial period from the Radio Licensing Authority.

Last year's trials have already built up a firm following for the station, which concentrates on dance music for the 18-30s.

Station controller Matthew Davidge said: "It shows the authorities have faith in what we're doing, we just have to keep plugging away till we get the full licence."

Last week Splash FM threw a celebration launch-party at Swann's Beach Bar, just behind the Tower. Matthew, who has recruited a host of the town's top club DJs, said: "The turn-out for the launch was very encouraging for everyone at Splash FM.

"People were making a bee-line to offer their support and congratulations to us and it was staggering to see the range of locals who came to the party.

"I'd like to say a big thank-you to all our supporters and new friends that we made.

"It has given the team here at Splash FM a real boost to know we are giving the public what they want."

Every Thursday night until the July broadcast launch, the Splash FM team will be hosting a show at Swann's Beach Bar, helping publicise the station before the big day.

Its entertainment mix will also feature news bulletins and entertainment shows.
