THE hard men and women of sport turned out to pound the roads of Pendle during the borough's annual triathlon sports event.
As usual the event attracted top class athletes from across the country prepared to push themselves to the limit.
The triathlon competitors completed a 500 metre swimming challenge at West Craven Sports Centre before tackling a gruelling 10.4 kilometre run and then a 22.5 kilometre cycle race.
The quadrathon athletes went one better, or should that be worse, by adding a canoe race on the nearby Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
The quadrathon winner was Chris McSweeny and top local was Ashley St John-Claire.
In the elite triathlon race Darren Flatley was first and leading Pendle finisher was Keith Eastham while the "standard" competitors were led home by Garrie Prosser. Leading local was Neil Thompson.
In the youth section the winner was Richard Moyle while the women racers were brought home by Jacqueline Moppet in the standard, Linda Hayles in the elite and Teresa Butler in the quadrathon.
In all 194 people entered the competition which organisers said was another success.
