COUNCILLORS have announced the launch of a 'fair deal' for all residents.
Services and new opportunities are to be made equally available to all Hyndburn residents, thanks to Hyndburn Council's new Equal Opportunities Strategy.
The strategy outlines the council's commitment to working with the community and breaking down existing barriers which might stop people getting jobs, gaining access to council services and participation in broader community activities.
Councillor Lesley Jackson, chairman of the equal opportunities panel, said: "The council is very keen to work with the community to overcome access barriers and unfair discrimination. The strategy is just the start.
"What matters now is action on the ground. We are now taking steps to make a difference, both within the council and the community we work with."
Representatives of agencies and voluntary groups joined in the launch.
The plan includes expanding the Access Playscheme and other leisure schemes with more activities designed for disabled people, increasing equality awareness across the council with elected members and officers, and planning future services where equal opportunities are a priority.
The equal opportunities panel will meet several times a year to discuss changes to services with individuals and community groups.
