A LORRY driver underwent surgery at Lancaster Royal Infirmary after crashing his wagon through the central reservation of the M6. Three lorries were involved in the accident but only one driver was seriously hurt. A spokesman for Morecambe Ambulance Service said: "We stabilised him on the reservation near Burton services. He had serious and traumatic lacerations on the left side of his chest near his left arm. A Lancaster ambulance took him to the hospital where he had surgery.

"The barriers worked which stopped him going over on the other road. It could have been much worse."
