FOR a long time now I have been absolutely fed up with the moaners and whingers of all political beliefs who continually carp on in this Letters page about the faults and mistakes of the other parties, while never admitting to any errors of their own.

It was therefore like a breath of refreshing summer air to read the letter (June 8) of Mr G Smith of Blackburn.

To actually have someone admit in writing that they were arrogant, ignorant and wrong (about blaming Labour for the Jobseeker's Allowance) in the same sentence, and then go on to apologise for the mistake, was an absolute joy to read!

Mr Smith, I don't care what your political fancies are, I am on your side for being an honest, upright gentleman, for which you have my respect, admiration and my vote!

If only real-life politicians would emulate your action.
