BLACKBURN Rovers have already backed the judgement of their new chief scout John Seasman - by signing teenage sensation Jim Corbett.

For, if Seasman had got his way, Corbett would now be a Tottenham player.

Seasman, today revealed as the new chief scout at Ewood Park, was working for Spurs when he saw Corbett in action at Gillingham.

And he had no hesitation in passing on a glowing report on the young winger to the White Hart Lane management.

"I could have walked out of the ground after 20 minutes. I recommended to Tottenham that they should buy him," revealed Seasman who replaces Mick Brown as the head of the scouting operation at Rovers.

And Tottenham's loss will now be Blackburn's gain believes 43-year-old Seasman, who worked extensively for the PFA before accepting Gerry Francis's job offer at Spurs.

He added: "He's a great acquistion for Blackburn. The lad will need lots of care and attention as he is coming into a new environment but he has the potential which if harnessed will prove that he's a good investment."

Seasman, whose only hat-trick of his Football League career came against Rovers when he was playing for Rotherham in the mid-1980s, also picked out Liverpool's Danny Murphy and West Ham's goalkeeping prodigy Steve Bywater.
