RAIN clouds cast a shadow over hundreds of queuing fans, but nothing could quell their determination to meet guitar legend Hank Marvin.

The former Shadows member hosted a masterclass at Clitheroe Civic Hall, which attracted music enthusiasts from across the North West.

The event was a sell-out and dozens of disappointed fans were turned away after the venue became full. The special guitar clinic was one of only a handful that Hank hosted in the UK this year.

He was joined on stage by his son, Ben Marvin, and MC Neville Martin, editor of Guitarist magazine.

Pete Barton, event organiser and member of '70s chart-topping band Lieutenant Pigeon, said he was 'knocked out' by the success of the event. And he thanked the Lancashire Evening Telegraph for helping with 'excellent coverage.'

"The last time people were turned away from Clitheroe Civic Hall was when it screened Jaws. I'm absolutely knocked out. When you put a lot of effort into something and it goes as well as this it is wonderful," he said.

"I'd like to thank Ribble Valley Council officers for their support and the Lancashire Evening Telegraph for excellent coverage," he added.

Hank, who has performed before an audience of 120,000 at Wembley Stadium, said he enjoyed playing "intimate venues."

"It reminds me of my skiffle group days when I earned £7 a session as a backing musician for Cliff Richard!" he said.

After the masterclass, Hank answered questions from audience members and signed autographs.

Pete Barton would like to hear from the holder of entrance ticket number eight on 01200 444544 in order to claim their prize of a guitar.
