THOUSANDS of families in Lancashire were being forced into buying houses they could not afford, a shock report revealed.

The Lancashire Housing Inquiry, headed by the Bishop of Burnley, claimed people were having to take on a mortgage millstone because there were not enough council houses to rent.

A disturbing pattern of unfit homes, overcrowding and homelessness was discovered.
