A BLACKPOOL man won more than £50,000 on the National Lottery - and his wife didn't even know he played.

Peter Harrison, from South Shore, scooped £50,251 after matching five numbers and the bonus ball by placing the family's regular Saturday numbers on the Wednesday draw instead.

Wife Joan said: "He didn't tell me about placing numbers on the Wednesday draw but I think it's safe to say that I've forgiven him."

Peter (pictured on the Playstation ride with Carolyn Fitzgerald from Camelot) nearly missed his win as he was on holiday in Austria at the time of the draw

He found out he'd won when he arrived home.

He said: "I used the numbers that Joan picked from day one. She didn't realise that I was putting them on the Wednesday draw as well."

As for spending plans, the couple are remaining sensible, as Peter said: "We've taken Camelot's advice and have banked the money. I don't think we'll be splashing out on something extravagant.

"We've lived in Blackpool for 19 years and have no intention of moving."

In a recent survey by Camelot, Blackpool was the top British resort for lottery winners to visit.

The town proved even more popular than Las Vegas, Australia, New York and Tenerife for the lucky few who have enjoyed lottery success.

Carolyn Fitzgerald, the voice of the National Lottery, said: "We came along to Blackpool to see why it was the top British destination for lottery winners and it's easy to see why - there are so many fun things to do."
