FOLLOWING an inspection by OFSTED, Billinge St Aidan's Community Church of England Primary School was found to be highly valued by the community of which it is an important part.

Inspectors said it a school with clear educational direction developed through very good leadership and a strong team of teaching and support staff. Pupils have "high standards" of behaviour and very good attitudes to learning. The inspection report also stated that the school provides quality teaching in an attractive environment and that all lessons observed were never less than satisfactory.

This good quality teaching is due to the hard work and enthusiasm of staff, their commitment to respecting and valuing children in their care and their commitment to education of high quality.

The inspectors found that attainment is in line, or better, with national expectation in all core subjects with music and art above the national average.

The inspection team also stated that information technology was not in line with the national average although word processing at Key Stage 1, was.

The headteacher stated that the school was aware of this and an Action Plan had been in place for one term prior to the inspection week.

They also said that pupil-teacher relationships were very good with children's spiritual, social and cultural development also praised. They grow in confidence and self-esteem as they proceed through the school.

The staff team, governors, parents and friends of the school share and support the school's aims and are fully committed to high standards and good pastoral care. These shared aims contribute effectively to creating the very positive school ethos. It was also noted that the Parent Teacher Association make a significant contribution to school life.

Chairman of Governors, Rev. Dennis Lyon, said: "We are delighted with the report. The governors felt that the report is a credit to the staff, the children and their parents. It also recognises the hard work and commitment of all the staff."
