THE Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Yangtze Incident is being held at Plymouth in April, 1999.

The weekend will include a service in memory of the 46 killed in April 1949, a civic reception, and dinner/dance. There will be an exhibition at the City Museum.

In October this year at the National Memorial Arboretum, Croxall, Staffordshire, the Dedication of a Yangtze Incident Grove will be held.

The organising committee of the 50th Anniversary invite the kin of our lost shipmates, and anyone directly or indirectly involved with the Incident, and ask them to write.

SAE please to: John Dunstan,

Secretary, 47 Abbotsbury Road, Newton Abbot, Devon. TQ12 2NS.

FOOTNOTE: The Yangtze Incident occurred when the Royal Navy frigate, Amethyst was trapped in the Yangtze River between Communist and Nationalist forces during China's Civil War in 1949. Amethyst was badly damaged by shellfire and suffered heavy casualties. As other ships attempted to rescue her she made a successful dash for the open sea.
