A BLACKBURN head teacher has warned parents he will not shy away from permanently excluding disruptive children from his classrooms.

Roger Eckton was speaking at Beardwood High School's annual prizegiving ceremony last night, following problems with a small minority of pupils. He said that some parents whose children had been excluded complained that their son or daughter was being picked on.

He added: "I assure them that it is quite the contrary.

"Their child has picked on the whole school community, often over two or three years, to build their record of non co-operation and anti-social disruptive behaviour. "Eventually there comes a time when the headteacher reviewing the evidence says 'enough is enough.'

"There are some young people who never learn from their mistakes and sadly some parents who fail to see the repeated errors being made by their youngsters."

On a brighter note Mr Eckton detailed a list of achievements in the last year.

He spoke of the new £100,000 Cable and Wireless information technology learning centre, opened by the home secretary Jack Straw in October.

And he revealed plans to refurbish three laboratories at the school over the summer months.

Mr Eckton said: "I am also highly optimistic that we will be successful in the next round of bidding for New Deals for Schools so that we might obtain some £300,000 to upgrade the remaining six science labs."
