BARGAINS galore are on offer at Burnley's annual pot fair with a £1,260 Royal Doulton dinner service being sold at the knock-down price of £450!

Barker Jason Halket, on the family stall for 18 years, said: "We still have china and tea services for a couple of pounds but people also want to see better quality at a bargain price.

"Cheap to me is a dinner service worth £1,260 sold for just £450. When we come here we buy especially for Burnley and by buying in bulk are able to offer reduced prices.

"We have people who visit every year but want to bring in the young people who don't know about the pot fair and think the only places to buy crockery are Ikea and Habitat."

Next year it is hoped to relocate the pot fair in the town centre. It is currently on the market service ramp next to the outdoor market.

Jason said: "In Barnsley we set up in the main street and it was good for us and good for the shops because we brought a lot of people into the centre.

"People like to shop here because it is a healthy atmosphere, not a plastic palace with air conditioning and it is good fun listening to the barking."

Former market trader Ian Burden has returned to the market this year after he retired to set up a shop. He said: "The atmosphere is good here and the people very friendly."

Besides crockery, the stalls also sell China dolls, ornaments, containers, kitchen ware and pans.

The fair ends on Monday evening. It is open to 9pm weekdays and 10pm Saturday but closed on Sunday.
