A SECURITY guard was hit over the head with a sawn-off shotgun before three armed robbers made off with his cash box containing thousands of pounds.

The guard had made a collection from the Aldi supermarket, Harpers Way, Chorley, at 3.40pm on Saturday.

The gang's car was found abandoned a short time later.

Two of the robbers were white and in their early 20s. The third was Afro Caribbean, about 5ft 3ins, and slim.
