MPs have called on the Government to build a super sports stadium along the lines of the "Stade de France", Paris venue of the World Cup final, as the centrepiece for the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games.
The MPs, including Chorley's Lindsay Hoyle, believe such an arena would boost the event and the entire North West.
In a Commons motion, they say: "We believe that the World Cup has been enhanced by the magnificent Stade de France, which has enabled the French nation to demonstrate its prowess in design, architecture and engineering.
"We further believe that the 2002 Commonwealth Games to be held in Manchester offer a similar opportunity to the nation."
