Ecclesiastical, the charity-owned company set up in 1887 to provide insurance for the Church of England, has included real life case studies to help with issues such as tax problems, retirement and pensions.

"The guide is the result of our many years' experience in advising the clergy," said Mark Goodale, Ecclesiastical Insurance general manager.

"This is combined with independent research into how they are managing in today's financial climate

"Given their unique position, we felt it was high time they had a guide all of their own."

Former teacher Rod Fotherby has been appointed financial services consultant for the Blackburn diocese.

He said: "As I see it, the crux of the job is getting to know people, to really understand their needs and aspirations so that I can take them through the maze of financial planning in a relaxed way."
