OVER recent months, certain 'facts' concerning Burnley have been reported - such as it has: the UK's highest suicide rate, its highest infant mortality rate and the greatest incidence of death from lung diseases.

Since then, I have read that Burnley people receive the lowest rates of pay in Lancashire.

And now we have yet another statistic, with our own MP complaining (LET, July 1) that we have the worst dental health care facilities in the country and that the cost is prohibitive.

What is the point of him complaining in the Press about the massive charges for dental treatment in our so-called free-at-point-of-need health service?

Shouldn't he be putting this question to that nice Mr Blair at Prime Minister's Question Time?

J T NAUGHTON, Deerstone Avenue, Burnley.
