FURTHER to my recent reference to the congestion caused by the toilets in Market Avenue, Blackburn, being crammed in a corner, may I draw attention to another architectural folly, sanctioned by the town hall planning officers?

I refer to the inapt canopy along the King William Mall frontage of the shopping precinct. It has separated sections suspended above the entrance to BHS and the precinct corridors, but does not extend continuously over the display windows and certainly fails as a shelter from wet weather.

It's a useless ornament, especially those two small sections in a corner at the foot of the clock tower.

The verandah adjacent to the spiral stairs in Ainsworth Street is much more ideal, even though it leaks in places and the gutter can't cope with heavy rain, especially as tufts of grass sprouting from the top of the downspout cause a waterfall that loosens the pavement setts.

And which town hall executive is responsible for the litter receptacles around the revamped shopping precinct?

They are obviously inadequate as by mid-day these litter bins are filled to overflowing so that food and drink containers scatter all over the pavements. But no-one seems concerned to resolve these unsatisfactory situations.
