LORA Fairclough all but secured a Solheim Cup place when she held off a late charge from fellow-Briton Joanne Morley to win the German Open at Treudelberg.

The 28-year-old from Chorley shot a final round 74 for a 10-under-par 282 to claim the £15,000 first prize and her first tour victory since 1995 to wipe out the nightmare of missing out on Solheim Cup selection two years ago.

The win moves her up to sixth in the rankings - the top seven are automatic selections - so she can now start dreaming about a return to the European side for the match against America at Muirfield Village, Ohio, next month.

"I'm just happy to win again," said Fairclough.

"The Solheim Cup can take care of itself, and at least I've already played in it once."

Fairclough took a four-stroke lead into the final round but she dropped shots at the first two holes after missing two short putts.

Morley then mounted a strong challenge with five birdies in 14 holes to close the gap to just one.

But the turning point came when Fairclough holed a birdie three on the 14th as Morley bogied the 16th, eventually finishing with a round of 70 and a share of second spot with France's Stephanie Dallongeville.
