NETHERFIELD 95-2 ST ANNES 91

ST ANNES suffered an eight wickets defeat at Parkside Road by current league champions Netherfield.

Put in to bat, St Annes found runs at a premium to amass.

They lost opener Eldine Baptiste with the score on 12.

He was trapped lbw by David Wheatman for five.

Three runs later Bobby Denning was caught by Tommy Prime off Wheatman for nought.

Chris Harrison and Adrian Darlington added 27 runs for the third wicket before they both departed.

Harrison was caught by Simon Dalzell off Wheatman for 10, while Darlington was caught behind by Simon Duttin off first change bowler Craig Atkins for 25.

Half the side were dismissed for 43 when Russ Bradley was caught by Prime off Wheatman without opening his account.

Three runs later wicketkeeper Duncan Whalley was caught by Wheatman off Atkins for two.

St Annes lost their seventh wicket at 50 when Gareth Evans was caught behind by Dutton off Wheatman without troubling the scorers.

Sean Bickerdike and Adam Cotton stopped the rot with a 20 runs partnership for the eighth wicket before Cotton was caught by Mark Hadwin off Atkins for four.

Seven runs later Ian Hill was caught by Wheatman off Hadwin for 2.

The tail wagged and added 14 runs for the last wicket before Brian Tennant was bowled by Hadwin for 14. Sean Bickerdike remained 24 not out.

Netherfield opening pace bowler David Wheatman took 5 for 24, while the spinners took the other five.

Craig Atkins finished with 3 for 23 and Mark Hadwin 2 for 16.

In reply, the Cumbrians lost their first wicket at 17 when Grahame Clarke was bowled by Eldine Baptiste for nine.

Baptiste struck again 8 runs later, trapping Prime lbw for 6. Then Simon Dutton and Zander De Bruyn saw Netherfield home to victory in the 25th over. De Bruyn finished undefeated with 45 and Dutton 24.

The former's innings lasted 51 minutes and he hit two sixes and five fours off 39 balls.

This Saturday (August 1) sees St Annes entertain the revitalised Darwen at Vernon Road.

St Annes must pay attention to Darwen's replacement professional Peter Sleep who has scored two unbeaten centuries in his past three games.
