IF YOU think house is somewhere to live, garage is a place to put the car and jungle is for wild animals then Blackpool's Vinyl Blast event is not for you.

If, on the other hand, these words are music to your ears and you're aged between 12 and 18, get yourself down to The Bizness nightclub tomorrow (Friday, July 31).

Vinyl Blast is a rare opportunity for young people to gain hands-on experience of how to produce the sights and sounds of a professional disco.

Throughout the day, three of London's premier DJs - St John De Zilva, DJ Kofi and T23 - will be demonstrating their art, giving tuition in technical skills and answering questions.

Also lending their knowledge and expertise will be Stuart Davies and Dave Taylor, two of the pioneers of the Blackpool dance scene.

The event, which runs from 10am-4pm and is supported by Blackpool and the Fylde College as well as the National Lottery, is the finale to the Grange Park DJ Training Scheme run by the resort's youth and community service.

Through the initiative, youngsters have developed an interest and gained valuable skills in the music industry.

It has seen them develop from raw beginners to a group mature enough to go out and perform in their own right. To mark this, 11 of them will be presented with certificates during Vinyl Blast.

Youth and community worker Buzz Bury commented: "These young people started out with nothing except an interest in music but they appealed for CDs, raised money for equipment and went out to gain knowledge from the professionals.

"They are now deservedly earning the applause of local groups."

Another intensive course will start after the summer. Anyone interested should contact Buzz on 696841.

Tickets for Vinyl Blast are £7 on the door or £5 if bought in advance on 696841.
