LANCASHIRE League secretary Rod Slater is sweating on a decision over his future as an official.

Slater offered his resignation at last week's league meeting.

But, after reconsidering his actions, the secretary decided to withdraw his resignation.

The league's executive committee held a special meeting at East Lancs on Monday to discuss the situation.

And the matter is believed to have been passed to league solicitor Peter West to clear up confusion as to who is now responsible for a decision - the league executive or the member clubs at their next meeting on September 30.

The problems are thought to centre around an executive visit to Lowerhouse when concern was expressed at the state of the field. Slater wanted the matter dealt with informally but other officials preferred a a more formal approach.

A heated debate between chairman Peter Westwell and his debuty Bert Hanson was witnessed at a preview to the Horse and Bamboo Theatre Company's preview night for an exhibition on the history of the Lancashire League, Beyond the Boundary.

Tension re-emerged at a league meeting last Wednesday, when Slater stormed out after offering his resignation to Hanson, who was standing in for Westwell.

Slater said today: "It is all my doing as I lost my head at that meeting.

"But I have given five years of service to this league.

"I have worked reasonably hard and I want it sorting out so that I can carry on being secretary.

"I have a feeling that I am not going to be given that opportunity."

It is believed as formal letter has now been received by Lowerhouse.
