TRIALIST goalkeeper Frank Petter Kval was beaten five minutes from time as the Clarets went down to their first defeat in Pontins League Division One.

Alan Quinn won a free-kick on the left which he hit low across the face of goal for Mark McKeever to beat a static Clarets defence and fire home at the far post to give the home side all three points.

A goalless draw had looked on the cards with Burnley's defence, which included trialists Brian Reid and Romuald Petit, set to keep a clean sheet until McKeever's late intervention.

The closest the Clarets came to finding the net came after 79 minutes when Phil Eastwood beat the Owls defence and lifted the ball over keeper Matt Clarke only for his goalbound effort to be cleared off the line by Leigh Bromby.

Stan Ternent and Sam Ellis were there to run the rule over the trio of trialists with Kaval and Petit both playing the full 90 minutes and ex-Rangers man Brian Reid being withdrawn after an hour.

Burnley: Kavel, Scott, Devenney, Petit, Heywood, Reid (West), Kelly, Graham, Carr-Lawton, Eastwood, Kevan (Maylett).
