I WAS interested in the letter from DJ Evans of Gringley Road (August 20).

In thirty-five years living in this area I have never seen crowds like those attracted to major events in Morecambe during this summer. I'm even wondering whether we will be able to cope when we get some really good weather! Following up on specific points. First, the development brief for Bubbles and the surrounding area has been published this week. The council are seeking to attract a major outside investor to revamp this part of central Morecambe. To quote the brief - we seek a development which "will bring additional visitors to Morecambe, particularly outside of the main holiday period and provide indoor leisure facilities which would be open to general public use and thereby provide an attraction that would benefit the whole town."

Second, the council is delighted to have been able to assist Morecambe Football Club in building its superb new stand which will be officially opened next week when the Shrimps take on Southampton. Lancaster City Council are fully in support of Morecambe Football Club's goal of gaining entry into the football league. Finally, I completely agree with the comments about Blackpool. The regeneration programme - new station, bowl, multiplex cinema, TERN, the refurbishment of the Winter Gardens - signals our commitment that it is Morecambe which will become the top resort in the North West.
