SQUIRES Gate's home game against Tetley Walker in division two of the Nowrth West Trains League got off to a slow start, with a swirling wind affecting control on both sides.

The visitors were the first to attack, but Gray in the home goal kept out all efforts.

Maudsley was involved in Gate's first attack which came to nothing.

The first corner of the game fell to Tetleys in the 23rd minute.

A fatal mistake by the usually reliable Rushton allowed Clay a clear run on goal to put the visitors into the lead.

Gray then pulled off a brilliant save from Tandy as the visitors looked like increasing the lead.

At the interval the visitors went in with a 1-0 lead.

Preidt headed Tetleys into a two-goal lead in the 55th minute and all looked lost for Gate.

However, a double substitution by manager Fell in the 60th minute sparked new life into his side and after a terrific run by Shaw an own goal reduced the arrears.

Gate attacked constantly but could not get a deserved equaliser.
