A LAST-MINUTE revamp was needed for the Grand Theatre's summer show when one of the stars needed quadruple heart bypass surgery.

Graham Walker, one of The Grumbleweeds, underwent the life-saving operation at the end of last week at a Leeds hospital and is making a good recovery.

But he will miss the rest of the season in Blackpool. Enter singing star and Blackpool favourite Linda Nolan who has stepped into the empty spot for two weeks despite an already heavy work schedule.

Until September 7 she is joining the show alongside remaining Grumbleweeds Tony Jo and Robin Colvill with a quick dash across town on Tuesdays and Thursdays to be on stage at the Tangerine Club for 10pm.

Her first night on Tuesday was well received and she said after: "It's always a pleasure to work at the Grand. I was made to feel very welcome by everyone and the audience was wonderful."

From September 7, when Linda has other commitments, the new look Nolans, made up of Maureen, Anne, her daughter... and their niece.... will take to the stage for the remainder of the season.

The full lin-up will then be billed as Joe Pasquale, The Grumbleweeds and The Nolans.

Grumbleweed Tony Jo said all the cast were united in wishing Graham a speedy recovery. "When we heard he was taking an ECG we thought it was an O level," he joked.

"But seriously, Robin and I have both spoken to him and he's in excellent spirits. The doctors are delighted with his progress and we hope to have him back with us soon."
