West Park 12 Rumney 38 AFTER being disappointed by Wirral, Sedgley Park and Widnes in their attempts to find pre-season warm-up games, West Park were no doubt pleased to find strong opposition in visitors Rumney who had similarly been let-down by Fylde.

Finishing a creditable sixth in the Welsh League Division One last season, Cardiff-based Rumney were certainly taking no prisoners in the game's first quarter and for a friendly match there were several torrid exchanges between the packs. Although without forward player coach Steve Bibby due to a groin injury, Park's mixture of youth and experience in the pack more than held their own with 18 year olds Paul Arnold and Liam McLoughlin well in evidence as was new hooker Christopher Moehle, although of French nationality, a close season signing from Macclesfield, making a front row all originating from the Cheshire club.

Fielding four former Welsh caps, Rumney's skipper, former Cardiff star, Steve Ford did the early damage running in two unconverted tries. Ford added a third before Dave Donovan scored Park's opener converted by Chris Glynn. Park were outflanked once again as Lee Abdul added a fourth try for the visitors who had second row Paul Rowley sent-off for a second foul following an earlier caution. Simon Creedy and Max Rice registered converted tries late in the game, Paul Bailey intercepting to complete Park's scoring. Both sides utilising a full replacements bench, Park had a number of debutants including Neil Kilshaw signed from Salford.

This Saturday Park entertain Leigh with a 3pm kick-off.
