ST Annes recorded their second 15 points win of the season with a 16 runs victory over high-flying Leyland Daf on Saturday (Aug 22).

Brian Tennant, the St Annes captain, won the toss and elected to bat.

Adrian Darlington and Eldine Baptiste put on 25 for the first wicket before the latter was caught behind by Charlie Williams off Steven John for nine.

Darlington and Chris Harrison took the score on to 42 before Darlington was caught in the slips by Duncan Catterall off John for 21.

Catterall injured his hand in the process and was taken to hospital, but he returned later.

The third St Annes wicket fell at 58 when Harrison was caught behind by Williams off John for 12.

One run later Bobby Denning was caught by Phil Iddon off Makinson without opening his account.

Russ Bradley and his brother Neil added 34 runs for the fifth wicket before the latter was caught by Chris Liptrott off David Makinson for eight.

Russ Bradley departed with the score on 109, caught by Iddon off Makinson for 39.

He was St Annes' top scorer and batted 107 minutes, faced 90 balls and hit one six and 5 fours.

The St Annes innings closed at 122 for 7 off their allotted 50 overs, with Sean Bickerdike and Duncan Whalley both being undefeated with six.

Steven John bowled 25 consecutive overs and took 3 for 49, while his captain David Makinson chipped in with 3 for 45.

St Annes got a dream start when Leyland Daf opener Charlie Williams was caught by Eldine Baptiste off Brian Tennant for four, with only 8 runs on the board.

Stuart Catterall and Alan Richardson took the score on to 25 before the latter was caught behind by Duncan Whalley off Baptiste for seven.

Stuart Catterall and David Makinson added 25 for the thirt wicket before Makinson was caught by Bobby Denning off Cotton for ten. Stuart Catterall and Alan Murray put Daf back into contention with a 32 runs partnership for the fourth wicket before the latter was caught by Denning off leg-spinner Gareth Evans for 15.

James Atkins and Nathan Braithwaite departed without troubling the scorers and the last 4 Leyland Daf wickets only realised 23 runs as Daf finished on 106.

Brian Tennant was the pick of the St Annes bowling attack by taking 4 for 21 from 11 overs.

St Annes travel to Cumbria for a tough encounter with Kendal on Saturday (Aug 29) and entertain Morecambe at Vernon Road on Monday (Aug 31).

This will be Eldine Baptiste's last match before he goes to the Commonwealth Games and I am sure that he will want to end his season with a win.
