TITLE hopes were given a big knock after Lynx suffered last minute heartache when the Wasps scored an injury time drop goal in the match which ended York Wasps 21 Lancs Lynx 20.

However the only similarity to last week's loss was that a much improved Lancashire Lynx once again lost by one single point.

In an awkward tie the Deepdale players produced a better performance and were unlucky not to gain a point from a match which had earlier been York's for the taking.

A lack-lustre first half saw Lynx trailing 10-2 at the break after tries from Andy Booth and Leigh Deakin put the home side ahead.

Doc Murray, who made a vital mistake last week, again became the villain when he made a dreadful error to give York their opening try.

York continued to outplay their opponents after the break and extended their lead when forward Steve Hill scored a try.

With only 20 minutes left Lancashire Lynx decided to push for their first try of the game and did so straight away when captain Andy Ruane scored.

Phil Jones converted and sent Lynx on the comeback trail.

New Zealander Murray then made up for his earlier error and combined well with hooker John Donno to score the visitors' second try.

Jones added another kick to send Lancashire within six points.

A tense last ten minutes saw the forwards crashing into each other as the win was there to be taken by both teams.

Substitute Carl Briscoe then came on to send the away fans wild.

After splitting the York defence open he crashed over the try line to send the scores to 20-18.

Phil Jones then stepped up and used his excellent right boot to kick his side in to what looked like a worthy draw.

York substitute Mark Cain then entered the game to slot over a left foot drop goal as time ran out.

A triumphant back flip said it all as York boosted their own championship hopes by completing the double over Lancashire Lynx.
