PLUMBER Chris Ormerod has tapped into business support to launch his own venture.

After working for Pendle Council for 11 years Chris decided to realise his lifetime ambition and start his own business.

Chris went through the FirmBase programme for small businesses in East Lancashire and received help through the Burnley Enterprise Trust.

"FirmBase really opened my eyes. Until I embarked on the programme I wasn't really sure what running a business entailed," said Chris. "By the end of the first session I was raring to go and looking forward to completing my business planning, accounting and marketing training."

Although Chris is working on his own at the moment there are plans to take on another member of staff.

The ELTEC FirmBase programme has so far helped more than 2,000 business start-ups in East Lancashire. More than 80 per cent of them are still trading at the end of their first year.
