THE body of a 57-year-old woman has been found in the St Helens Sankey Canal at Newton-le-Willows two days after her family reported her missing.
Doreen Hamnett, from Wargrave Road, Newton, was discovered in the canal at the back of Newton Cottage Hospital off Bradlegh Road by St Helens Council rangers at about 12.55pm on Friday, August 21.
She had been missing since 9pm on Wednesday, August 19. A coroner at Whiston Hospital has recorded a verdict of death by drowning.
