A PUB landlord who collapsed while telephoning police to report a burglary was yesterday (August 27) still in hospital.

Police had to force their way into the Black Bull pub on The Rock, Bury, where they found manager Barry Pope slumped on the floor.

He was rushed to Bury General Hospital with a suspected coronary. However, it is understood Mr Pope, aged in his 50s, may have suffered a severe angina attack.

Doctors have advised him to give up pub work and a spokesman at the Black Bull said the manager would not be returning.

Mr Pope collapsed on Sunday morning while on the phone to officers after discovering a break-in and the theft of £500

Detective Sergeant Dave Maguire of Bury police said: "Our officers forced their way into the pub and Mr Pope was found on the floor upstairs in the living quarters."

Police say the burglary happened sometime between midnight on Saturday and 8.30am on Sunday.

Investigations into the theft of the cash are continuing.
